Dii Wellness Med Spa's Central Embassy location offers a peaceful, revitalising escape

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

The newly opened Central Embassy promises a great shopping experience as well as escapism from bustling Bangkok, with Dii Wellness Med Spa located on the upscale mall’s fourth floor.

A treatment room transports you to the deep blue sea.

Award-winning architect Amata Luphaiboon worked on the spa’s futuristic interior design, with turquoise spiralling structures adding depth to the compact reception area and a colour theme that may make you feel as though you are underwater amid floating seaweed.

“They are actually models of the DNA double helix that express our approach to achieving wellness, which looks deeper within ourselves, to the cellular level. As a medical spa, Dii integrates traditional therapies with modern medical technologies as shortcuts to health and wellness,” said spa director Taneth Jiraswakedelok, who has 13 years of experience in expanding the Divana spa chain.

With their charming garden home settings, Divana spas are popular sanctuaries for foreign tourists whereas Taneth’s new project called for transforming a concrete space into a luxurious spa targeted primarily at local clients. Dii (which stands for Divana, integration and innovation) was also established as a medical spa with doctors giving physical check-ups and offering advice on detoxification and anti-ageing treatments.

“Foreign tourists look for ‘hidden places’ and the garden home ambience with lush greenery appeals to them. Dii is our new brand located in a shopping complex, which is easily accessible for local clients who can escape their busy schedule to another world through the spa’s design concept,” he explained.

The DNA double helix models also refer to the symbol for infinity. Fitting, as the design concept aims to deliver an infinity of time and space, transporting clients from the modern shopping complex to a dark underwater world. Beyond the reception area, a door leads into a dark and mysterious corridor, where mirrored glass panels produce the illusion of a night sky, with crystals hanging from the ceiling resembling a galaxy of stars. The dark sky tumbles into an ocean-deep setting within the treatment rooms, where crystals take on the appearance of bubbles.

“The futuristic interior design could have either taken us to outer space or to the deep blue sea, and we chose to transport spa-goers to the sea, whose amazing underwater world entices exploration,” said Taneth. “We may overlook the value of the ocean, which is rich in natural resources. Research has identified marine ingredients, such as peptides from starfish and enzymes from shark cartilage, that have become a part of Dii’s beauty and wellness prescriptions.”

Facial treatments include Juventide mesotherapy, which uses an electroporation device to penetrate starfish’s peptides into the skin, while Andaman Aura involves an oxygen hydradermabrasion technique to exfoliate the skin.

“Various technologies are employed in our face and body treatments. However, we’re not competing in offering lots of medical innovations — what matters is how we can use them to complement traditional healing. And we believe in the integration of Oriental wisdom, natural healing energy and medical technology for spa treatments and programmes that give the best possible results and a balance in mind and body,” said Taneth.

The Ayurveda Black Marine programme (15,500 baht) is an example of such integration, involving the Ayurvedic technique of pouring warm oil on the third eye of the forehead.

Natural healing energy comes from the power of precious stones such as heated black jade, which is used for a stimulating facial followed by an icy massage with amethyst for a face-lifting effect.

Black jade from Myanmar is also used for an invigorating body massage and a 20-minute body treatment involves Airnergy O2 technology as a detoxifying oxygen infusion. In all, the four-hour Ayurveda Black Marine pampering serves as a head-to-toe balancing and revitalising programme.

Other signature programmes include the anti-ageing Empress of the Sea and skin-brightening Andaman La Lunar, which require at least half-a-day at the medical spa. Shorter treatments are also available, including the 70-minute Marine DeStress facial, starting at 2,200 baht.
