Khanchai unable to report to NCPO

Matichon chairman still recovering from heart surgery

Newspaper publisher Khanchai Boonparn, chairman of the Matichon Plc, was unable to report to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Wednesday morning as he is still in hospital recovering from major surgery, his daughter said on Wednesday.

Thakoon Boonparn, Matichon's general manager, reported to the NCPO at the army auditorium on Mr Kanchan's behalf.  He submitted a letter to the NCPO to affirm Mr Khanchai's sickness.

The NPCO issued Order No 46 on Tuesday night summoning Mr Kanchan and Banpot Damapong, the elder brother of Khunying Potjaman Na Pombejra, the ex-wife of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, to report to junta officials today between 10am and noon.

Panbua Boonparn, Mr Khanchai's daughter, posted a message on her Facebook this morning saying that her father was admitted to hospital on April 28 and underwent major heart surgery on April 30.

Mr Khanchai regained consciousness only 10 days after the operation, Ms Panbua said. She and her mother had been with Mr Khanchai at the hospital for five weeks, since April 29.

The doctors have not set a date for Mr Khanchai's release since he is still very weak and requires physical therapy.  No visitors are allowed, Ms Panbua said in her post.

She said many questions came to her mind after she learned of the NCPO's order that he report in, since her father's sickness was widely known to the public.

Matichon Plc publishes Matichon newspaper.
