Flood, landslide warning in East, South

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation on Friday warned of possible flood runoff and landslides caused by heavy rain in five eastern and southern provinces.

Chatchai Phromlert, director-general of the department, said torrential rains were continuing in many areas and this could lad to runoff and landslides on mountainsides.

A warning was issued for Chanthaburi province (in Khao Kitchakut, Makham and Khlung districts), Trat (in Bo Rai, Khao Saming and Koh Chang districts), Ranong (in Muang Ranong, Kapoe, La-un and Suk Samran districts), Phangnga (in Takua Pa, Khura Buri, Kapong, Thai Muang and Takua Thung districts), and Trang (in Yan Ta Khao and Palian districts). It was raining heavily in those provinces on Friday.

Mr Chatchai advised local people to keeop a close watch out and rush to safe places if they felt threatened.

Departmrent staff were on standby to help, he said, and were monitoring the state of local reservoirs and dams.
