Voice TV, T-News back on air

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Saturday night allowed Voice TV and T-News television stations to resume their broadcasting service. The permission took immediate effect.

Under its 65/2557 announcement, the NCPO stated that it allowed the stations to resume broadcasting as practices concerning information dissemination to the general public returned to order.

The council explained that it had suspended the broadcasting of television stations and community radio stations on May 22 in order to stop the dissemination of distorted information that affected peace-restoring efforts and order.

The council granted the permission on the condition that both TV stations must refrain from creating conflicts or opposing its operations.

Voice TV is a Shinawatra family-owned digital network and T-News is a pro-Democrat satellite channel. It was earlier reported that both stations revised their programming to exclude political comments or analysis that could deepn social divisions.

On May 22 the NCPO staged the coup and shut down all TV channels on every platform along with 6,000 community radio stations. Afterwards the NCPO issued announcements related to media regulations and gradually allowed TV channels to resume broadcasting.
