Eight projects to be probed

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will probe and follow up on eight projects over the next three days.

One Tablet per Child is among the projects being scrutinised by the junta. - CHANAT KATANYU

The junta earlier set up a panel led by Lt Gen Anantaporn Kanchanarat to monitor the use of fiscal 2014 budget on projects worth more than 1 billion baht in terms of benefits, cost effectiveness and transparency.

If it finds irregularities, it will forward the case to the Auditor General's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Commission, said NCPO spokesman Yongyuth Maiyalarp today.

Two of the projects belong to the State Railway of Thailand: plans to buy 115 cars for commercial service and 126 locomotives. Airports of Thailand Plc also sees two of its projects under probe: the 2011-17 Suvarnabhumi airport development plan and the advance passenger processing system service procurement plan.

Also going under the microscope is the Energy Policy and Planning Office's Energy Conservation Fund.

The others are the tablet project of the Education Ministry and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry, TOT Plc's 3G network project and the digital-TV transition facilitation project of the ICT ministry.
