New public-private committee set up

The military has set up a joint public-private committee to solve economic problems.

Chaired by the National Council for Peace and Order chief Prayuth Chan-ocha, the panel will consider and propose guidelines and measures to address economic, trade and investment problems and obstacles.

Gen Prayuth will choose one of his deputies to be the committee's deputy chairman.

From the government sector, the members are permanent secretaries of 12 ministries: finance, foreign affairs, tourism and sports, agriculture, transport, natural resources and environment, energy, commerce, interior, labour, science and technology and industry.

Other members are chiefs of the Council of State, Budget Bureau and Bank of Thailand.

From the private sector, the members are chairmen of the Board of Trade, the Federation of Thai Industries, the Thai Bankers' Association, the Tourism Council of Thailand and the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations.

The secretary general of the National Economic and Social Development board will be committee secretary while his deputy will be deputy secretary. Both are also committee members.
