Phra Karunpol Sinmahatkuntorn of Wat Sri Suphan in Muang district said on Thursday his quest to find his mother was driven by his desire for her to see him in the monkhood.

The 34-year-old monk left his ordinary life six months ago to dedicate himself to a religious life for the sake of his parents.

He moved to Chiang Mai province shortly after his father Thongkham Kongsri died of cancer in Khon Kaen in 2009.

Wuthichai Kongsri worked as a security guard before entering the monkhood with a Buddhist name and with the hope of seeing his mother Wichien Kongsri among his well-wishers.

Phra Karunpol was ordained at Wat U-mong in Muang district before moving to Wat Sri Suphan in the same district four months ago.

The last time he saw his mother was when he was three before his father took him and his elder sister from their home in Nakhon Sawan province to stay with his aunt in Chum Phae district of Khon Kaen, he said.

The monk said the only thing he knew from his father before he died was her name and her location in Nakhon Sawan.

He said his mobile phone - 09-3159-0632 - is open for those who can help him locate his mother.
