Porntip back as forensic institute chief

Charnchao Chaiyanukij, acting permanent secretary of the Ministry of Justice, said on Friday that the NCPO approved the appointment of Khunying Pornthip on Tuesday and he received the official order on Thursday.

The order took immediate effect, he said.

Under the order Khunying Porntip swaps her position as  inspector-general at the Justice Ministry with Lt Col Anek Yomjinda, the former CIFS chief.

The NCPO said the transfer was aimed at improving forensic science investigation and finding solutions to the problems in the southern border provinces.

Lt Col  Anek said he would obey the order.

Khunying Porntip, 60, said she would return to work in the far South. Previously local officials had been prohibited from sending results of DNA tests to the military and ordered to cooperate with the police. Forensic science officials had been removed completely from the far South, she said.

Lt Col Anek replaced Khunying Porntip as the CIFS director-general in May last year.
