Football gambling base busted

Police who raided a football gambling operation in Prachuap Khiri Khan say it had been handling between 800,000 and one million baht a day in bets.

The raid by Crime Suppression Division (CSD) police took place at a house in Sam Roi Yod sub-district of Sam Roi Yod district. Inside, they found seven men and four women taking phone calls from football bettors.

Police seized a computer, 12 mobile phones, 15 ATM cards, passbooks and a large number of online football gambling records, said Pol Maj Gen Norabun Naenna, the acting CSD commander.
 
The raid followed the arrest earlier of Atthapol Suanjaiyen, an online football gambling bookmaker.

Pol Maj Gen Norabun said each football gambling website recorded daily turnover of 800,000 to one million baht from ounters who ranged from students to former high-ranking government officials.

The gang was also linked with major football bookies identified only as "Rocky" and "Boonchu" in the Ratchadaphisek area of Bangkok.

Pol Maj Gen Norabun said that since the World Cup bagan, police had already closed 700 gambling websites but more kept opening up.
