More rain, flash floods alert

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department on Sunday issued a warning for people in 16 provinces in the East, West and the South to prepare for more rain from Monday until Wednesday.

According to the Meteorological Department, a southwestern monsoon is gaining strength over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. This will lead to increased rainfall in all parts of the country. 

People living near hillsides and waterways in Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Petchaburi, Prachuab Khiri Khan, Chanthaburi, Chon Buri, Rayong, Trat, Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Pangnga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang should prepare for heavy rain, possible flash flooding, forest run-off and mudslides from Monday to Wednesday, it warned.
