19 stations to be completed in the Northeast

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) on Tuesday approved a budget of about 200 million baht for the construction of 19 police stations left uncompleted in six northeastern provinces, Pol Lt Gn Pisan Juladilok, acting chief of the Nakhon Ratchasima-based Region 3 Provincial Police Bureau, said.

Of the 19 police stations, two are in Nakhon Ratchasima, two in Yasothon, 10 in Surin, two in Buri Ram, two in Si Sa Ket and one in Chaiyaphum.

They are part of the 5.8 billion baht project approved by the Democrat-led government to build 396 new police stations all over the country, but the contractor, PCC Development and Construction, failed to complete the construction.

Pol Lt Gen Pisan said the NCPO chose the 19 stations as being in urgent need of completion.

At Krachon police station in Nakhon Ratchasima's Phimai district, for instance, police have been working in a temporary building put up with 200,000 baht donated by local residents, he said.

He  had ordered the police superintendents of the six provinces to coordinate with the provincial public works and planning offices to finalise the designs and methods of hiring firms to build the police stations, to ensure transparency and accountability.
