1.32m meth pills seized in Loei

A combined patrol of police, military and civilian officials seized 1.32 million methamphetamine pills from two pickup trucks while on a security patrol mission along the bank of the Mekong river in Pak Chom district of Loei province early on Sunday, police said.

While patrolling Pak Chom-Nong Khai road near a shrine in Ban Non Sawan in tambon Huay Pichai of Pak Chom district at about 1am the authorities spotted the two pickups on a roadside.

A group of men were seen moving cloth bags from one vehicle to the other. On being discovered by the authorities, the men fled into the forest.

The authorities found two cloth bags in one of the vehicles and three others in the other. In the bags were 600 bundles containing 1.32 million methamphetamine pills.

Patrol leader Sub Lt Pongsak Sukrom, commander of Rangers Company 2106, said the authorities were acting on information obtained earlier about the drug delivery.

A press conference would be held at the Loei City Halll this afternoon to announce the drug seizure.
