Ex-soldier arrested, weapons seized

Apprehension follows discovery of Ayutthaya cache

A former soldier was arrested with a large cache of war weapons in Pathum Thani province on Monday, Pol Gen Somyos Phumphanmuang said at a press conference at the Region 1 Provincial Police headquarters.

Pol Gen Somyos identified the suspect as Chief Warrant Officer Pakaphum Kosinanont, known as  Sergeant Go, aged 58, formerly attached to the First Cavalry Regiment.

He was arrested at a house in Khlong 6 area in Thanyaburi district of Pathum Thani under a warrant issued by the Saraburi Court.

Items found in his possession included two AK47 rifles, one M16 rifle with an amount of ammunition, 10  RGD5 hand grenades, 67 fuses, two claymore mines and a number of bullet-proof vests.

Pol Gen Somyos said the arrest followed the seizure of weapons in Wang Noi district of Ayutthaya province on June 17.  Some suspects arrested in this case accused CWO Pakaphum of if being involved with the weapons seized.

Warrants were subsequently issued for the arrest of CWO Pakaphum and seven other suspects alleged to have been involved in the past political violence.
