34,500 seized guns to be melted down

The Police Ordnance Division will melt down 34,500 seized unusable, largely home-made guns linked to court cases which were concluded in the years 2000 to 2013.

Pol Maj Gen Ranakorn Supasamut, the division chief, said the seized guns had already been sorted into categories. Some models matched those used by the police and would be transferred for further use. The rest would be destroyed.

The police on Wednesday morning showed reporters around the warehouse where the weapons are stored. The 34,500 unusable firearms will be destroyed in a furnace by a private firm in Samut Prakan on July 15.
