ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Welcome to Guru’s Gate Crasher, your ultimate guide to finding something fresh to do in this big city.

PARTY

Engaging the lewdness of the city further is another instalment of the Duck & Noodle party inertia (fb.com/duckandnoodle). Tonight (Jul 4), they will host It’s a Bad Idea again with a decidedly severe twist, embracing the worst of ideas in the Darling massage club (Sukhumvit Soi 12), with strange Colombian origins. The Chess Club just became a franchise somehow - this city never fails to surprise. Music will be courtesy of David Chong, Benoit Cleric and Them Apples, who will spin underground house and techno for better or worse. There are no tickets either, with a B300 door tax involved, including a vodka starter.

ART EVENT

Possibly the highlight of La Fete, the ongoing French festival, will happen on Sat (Jul 5) in Galleries’ Night (fb.com/galleriesnight). It’s a great realisation of the kicking creative scene of the city, with more venues involved than you knew were even active in trying to make this megapolis a better place — apparently over 30, to be more exact. Phra Khanong would be our pick of the districts involved, but it’s all over the city. Check the website (www.cooperation-ambafrance-th.org/lafete/events/galleriesnight) for less vagueness. From 7pm, with free entry everywhere. Let the galleries host you, as they want to and can.

SKATE PARTY

Preduce (fb.com/preduce) continues with their consistent roster of activity, this time with a launch of the Preduce X Tawan deck series on Sat (Jul 5). They are back to their HQ in Siam Square Soi 1 for this one, and they’re promising free beers too, if you’re thirsty. It involves the launch of a Tawan Wattuya art show, who has collaborated with Preduce on a series of skateboard decks. Free entry for this one too. Go take a look at some of the most pro-active guys in town, from 6pm onwards.

PERFORMANCE ART

The dance scene is also coming alive, particularly on Sat (Jul 5) with 2nd Quantum Leap Across Thailand, a one-hour original performance by 21 Australian and Thai dancers. The fitting collaboration is a culmination of some strong support from the Aussie embassy, so props to them for ongoing activeness. The performance will be held at the Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts Theatre (Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University) at both 1:30pm and 3:30pm. Dance fan or not, it might be worth a visit.

VENUE ANNIVERSARY

Love it or loathe it, Levels (6/F, Aloft Bangkok, Sukhuvmit Soi 11, fb.com/levelsclub) will host its second anniversary on Wed (Jul 9). After the demise of Bed across the road, it has become the lynchpin of the soi that has almost become a caricature of itself. With ongoing free entry, they will no doubt throw down plenty of free booze, regardless of the quality. And plenty of crowd will be involved, guessing from the popularity of the area. You won’t be alone there. G
