From carotenoids and durian to pomegranate and peptides, a variety of skin saviours have been studied at Murad Research Lab, with the discovery of a biopeptide hyped as a new approach comparable to vaccination against skin-ageing.

Devices are used to enhance the effectiveness of the facial.

You won’t need to get a shot, however, as the biopeptide has been incorporated into an Immuno-Skin Complex used in facial treatments at the Murad Skin Institute, now open in Bangkok at Siam Discovery Center and at Life Center, Q House Lumpini.

The brand was founded by American dermatologist Dr Howard Murad, whose research includes the Cellular Water Principle, a comprehensive theory that recognises inter-cellular water as the key to youthful health and vitality.

The principle has been translated into the signature Cellular Water Therapy (5,500 baht), which gives a surge of skin hydration.

The other signature facial, Immune Booster Therapy (6,500 baht) is based on Murad’s research in skin immunity, which assumes that the skin’s natural immune system can be enlisted to fight the signs of aging.

Advanced Active Radiance Serum and Rapid Collagen Infusion for brighter and firmer-looking skin.

As we age, declining immune function weakens the skin’s defences, making it vulnerable to stress and environmental aggressors and easing the development of fine lines, wrinkles, discolouration and loss of firmness.

The Murad Skin Institute focuses on delivering result-oriented treatments rather than relaxation. The institute’s ambiance is without the aroma of scented candles, and the six treatment rooms are functional, with a clean and minimalist interior design.

A session begins with a computerised skin analysis to provide a better picture of the skin’s moisture level, sensitivity, wrinkles and pigmentation. Based on the analysis, an aesthetician can identify issues that require precautions and provide the treatment that best targets the skin’s current needs.

The Immune Booster Therapy is designed to support the skin’s natural defence with a dose of the Immuno-Skin Complex. Key steps include skin resurfacing with an IP5 high-performance peel, featuring five exfoliating and brightening agents.

The peel primes the skin for receiving a double serum through electropolation technology in which electric pulses enhance the absorption of Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum and Rapid Collagen Infusion.

The following acupressure massage employs techniques aimed at firming while a cooling mask promotes hydration, before the application of a skin-soothing serum and moisturiser rounds off the 80-minute facial.

For a daily skincare regimen, home-use versions of the serums and moisturiser are sold at the Murad Skin Institute.

Dr Murad is also known for his inside-out Internal Skincare, which involves taking dietary supplements to improve the skin’s health and appearance.

Besides renewing and protecting the skin from the outside, he advises a diet rich in immune system-boosting foods, as well as leading a healthy lifestyle and reducing stress.

Murad Skin Institute is on the 5th floor, Siam Discovery Center (02-658-0082) and at Life Center, Q House Lumpini (02-343-8810)
