An employee of a tambon municipality was shot dead from ambush in tambon Rueso of Narathiwat's Rueso district early on Thursday, police said.
Biew Thongprayoon, 49, an employee of Rueso municipality, was shot by an attacker hiding in the dark on the roadside with an AK47 rifle while returning home on a motorcycle after his night duty shift ended. The attack occurred about 2.10am.
Biew was hit once in the body and died on the spot.
Police were investigating the motive for the murder.
Biew was also a village defence volunteer.
