Thailand successfully defended their title and their star Danthai Boonma took the individual honour at the 67th Singapore Open Amateur Championships which ended yesterday.

In the team event, Danthai and Kasidit Lepkurte scored a total of 412 in a 54-hole competition at Singapore Island Country Club. Danthai hit a three-under-par 67 while Kasidit shot a 68 in the final round.

Singapore A (Jerome Ng and Lucius Toh) were second on 422 and Singapore B third on 423.

In the individual event, overnight leader Danthai, who took two gold medals at last year's SEA Games, defeated compatriot Natipong Srithong at the second play-off hole.

They shot 13-under-par in 72 holes of regulation. Kasidit, who was runner-up at last year, finished fifth.

Danthai, Natipong and Kasidit will represent Thailand at the Asian Games in South Korea later this year.

Kanes Nitiwanakul, director of Thailand national team development, said he was satisfied with the results and that this would boost the players' confidence in Incheon.
