Dying father parks car, daughters survive in back seat

PATHUM THANI – A man driving his two young daughters home died from an apparent heart attack after falling ill and parking his vehicle while travelling from Nakhon Ratchasima to Nakhon Pathom on Monday morning, leaving the two girls alone in the back seat.

The father ot two young girls died in this parked car early Monday, leaving his daughters in the back seat. He had been driving them home to Nakhon Pathom from Nakhon Ratchasima after visiting the site of their planned new home.. 

Lat Lum Kaeo police were informed about 7.30am that a man had died in a vehicle parked on Bang Pa-in – Bang Bua Road in tambon Klong Phra Udom in Lat Lum Kaeo district.

Police and a doctor sent to the scene found Winai Aunlamai, 47, dead on the reclined driver’s seat, and his two daughters, aged six and eight years, alive and in their sleeping clothes in the back seat.

Pol Lt Voraphak Supasalat, a case office at Lat Lum Kaeo police station, said the vehicle’s engine was still running when the police arrived.

The two girls were taken to a nearby shophouse for care and police got in contact with the man's wife.

His wife, Prapaipim Aunlamai, 42, later told police the couple had opened a shop selling construction materials on Phutthamonthon Sai 4 Road and they were preparing to build a house in Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima. The husband had taken their two daughters to visit the site on Friday and planned to return home on Monday morning.

The mother said she called one of her daughters early Monday morning and reminded her to wake her father so he could drive them home.

Later, she was told by the daughter that Winai had trouble breathing and complained of numbness in his limbs. He parked the car and borrowed some menthol inhaler (ya dom) from a passing motorcyclist. He  died shortly after.

Ms Prapaipum said her husband had earlier experienced symptons of exhaustion, but had not gone to see a doctor.
