Flooding subsides in Northeast

Flooding had subsided in four northeastern provinces - Sakon Nakhon, Si Sa Ket, Ubon Ratchathani and Amnat Charoen - the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Friday.

Chatchai Phromlert, director-general of the department, said that in Sakon Nakhon province, floods remained only on low-lying farmland in Sawang Daen Din, Muang Sakon Nakhon, Phon Na Kaeo, Phanna Nikhom and Akat Amnuai districts. Nearly 4,300 families were in trouble and rehabilitation was on the way for them.

Floods also remained only on low farmland in Non Khun and Benchalak districts of Si Sa Ket province.

In Ubon Ratchathani province, floods had earlier hit nine districts and troubled over 11,000 families. On Friday they remained on low farmland in Na Yia, Phibun Mangsahan and Warin Chamrap districts.

In Amnat Charoen province, about half a square kilometre of farmland, 10 houses and many roads were still inundated in Muang Amnat Charoen district and the flooding should end in a few days, Mr Chatchai said.
