Luong Tien Phong, 62, and Chen Zhiyu, 23, were presented at a news conference at the airport's customs office on Monday after an X-ray of their four bags  revealed 18 pieces of tusks and 587 ivory bracelets weighing a combined 46 kilogrammes on Saturday.

The suspects had travelled from Ivory Coast and were embarking on Bangkok Airways flight PG 909 to Siem Reap, Cambodia, at 6.30pm when they were apprehended.

Mr Luong claimed he had visited a relative in Ivory Coast and an Asian man offered him US$500 (about 16,000 baht) and Ms Chen  $300 (about 9,600 baht) to deliver the ivory to Siem Reap through Thailand.
