B4 million siphoned from bank ATM

A knowledgable thief has stolen about four million baht from a Bangkok Bank ATM in Sikao district of Trang province.

Police were informed of the crime on Wednesday. The ATM is in front of the factory of Sri Trang Agro-Industry Plc on Trang-Sikao Road in Na Muang Phet sub-district.

The theft apparently occured about 3am Monday, but bank staff did not discover it until Wednesday when they went to top up the machine with cash to meet withdrawal demands at the end of this month, pay day for many people.

More than four million baht was missing.

Police said the robber seemed to be familiar with ATM operations because all security systems on the machine were deactivated, including the alarm when someone tries to open the money safe with an incorrect passcode or a skeleton key.

Police were collecting fingerprints and checking surveillance camera footage to try to identify the culprit.
