Inspired Buriram see off Suphanburi

Patino scores hat-trick in comfortable victory for defending champions while Chonburi overwhelm Samut Songkhram

Defending champions Buriram United remain two points clear at the top of the Thai Premier League after thrashing Suphanburi 4-0 yesterday, thanks to a hat-trick from Javier Patino.

Chonburi’s Chakrit Buathong shoots to score against Samut Songkhram.

Buriram were without striker Carmelo Gonzalez, who has been suspended indefinitely after being sent off during the League Cup match against Ratchaburi in midweek.

It made little difference, though, as Buriram produced a dominant performance in front of their home fans. Their captain Suchao Nutnum opened the scoring in the 54th minute, heading home a free-kick from winger Theerathon Bunmathan.

The second goal came in the 58th minute, when a mistake from Suphanburi defender Panupong Wongsa allowed Patino to score from close range. A minute later, Patino scored his second goal before adding his third five minutes from time, beating an offside trap to knock the ball into the net and secure victory.

Elsewhere, Chonburi claimed three points by beating Samut Songkhram 4-0.

Chakrit Buathong put Chonburi 1-0 ahead in the 29th minute before Brazilian striker Thiago Cunha added the second goal in the 32nd minute. The third goal came from Juliano Mineiro before Pipob On-mo completed the scoring.

At Thai-Japan Stadium, hosts Bangkok United thrashed Songkhla United 5-2.

United’s five goals came from Korawit Namwiset (30), Mike Ternwanjera (38 and 74), Wittaya Mudlum (45) and Ekachai Sumre (58) while Songkhla scored through Renan da Silva in the 11th minute and Muzafer Ejupi in the 87th.

At Thupatemiya Stadium, hosts Air Force defeated Chiang Rai United 1-0, with Bang Seungwhan scoring in the fourth minute.
