2 rangers killed, 1 wounded in Yala

Two rangers were killed and one seriously injured when a bomb similar to one that killed two other soldiers earlier this month went off in Yala province Tuesday.

Pakasit Rakphan and Chatchai Lohithan died in the 4:30pm explosion while their team from Rangers Company 4713 were conducting a security patrol near Samakkhi School in Kato village in Yala district's Patae tambon. The injured member of Rangers Task Force 47 was not identified.

A bomb-disposal team examined the scene this morning and found the device was made of a gas cylinder that had been buried under a tree on one side of a canal.

The bomb was similar to the one which went off on Aug 4 in a rubber plantation near Padae Daeru village in Yaha district, killing two rangers.

A bathing rite for the killed was scheduled to be held on Thursday at 9am at Wat Phuthaphum in Muang district of Yala province.  The bodies would then be transported by plane to their hometowns in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
