Thongchai eyes better results

Thongchai Jaidee hopes for a better performance in the next four months to remain in the top-40 in the world rankings by the end of the year.

The world No.35 Thai, who is taking a break in his hometown of Lop Buri after a three-month overseas campaign, said yesterday that he had been in good form this year although he missed the cut at last week's PGA Championship.

The 44-year-old said he hoped to play well in the home stretch of the season.

"I have been playing well. I have to stay healthy and a three-week break will give me a chance to work on my fitness to get ready for the rest of the season," said Thongchai who won his sixth European Tour title at the Nordea Masters in Sweden in June.

He said that he failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship because of an arm injury.

In the other three major championships this year, Thongchai was 37th at the Masters and 39th at the British Open and missed the cut at the US Open.

The three-time Asian Tour No.1 added that he normally played good golf in the second half of the year and this year should be the same.

"I am confident I can do better than I did in the first half of the year," said the golfer, ranked 13th in the Race to Dubai.

"My target is to stay in the top-40 in the world at the end of the year."

There are many big tournaments in the next four months including the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai where he finished eighth in 2010 and seventh in 2012.

Thongchai, who was 46th in the world at the end of last year, plans to return to action at the European Masters in Switzerland from Sept 4-7.
