Traffic police have wheel-clamped about 2,000 vehicles parked in prohibited areas nationwide on Monday, said senior police adviser Pol Gen Wuthi Liptapanlop.

The officer, who is in charge of traffic, said the highest number of wheel-clamping cases had been reported in residential communities, markets and department stores on Sukhumvit Road in Samut Prakan province, Chaeng Wattana Road in Nonthaburi and in Pathum Thani.
The campaign is part of the Royal Thai Police’s effort to reduce road accidents and ease traffic congestion, caused by illegal parking. It follows a successful campaign to crack down on drivers using mobile phones without hands-free devices launched earlier this month.
The police would continue to enforce traffic regulations to alleviate traffic problems, Pol Gen Wuthi said.
