Gunman who fled from hospital caught

An arrested gunman being treated for minor bullet wounds who escaped from the Police General Hospital last Thursday has been arrested in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district.

Boontham Tabtimnark, 52, fled from the hospital’s inpatient section, where he was being treated for a bullet wound, about 3pm on Aug 14.

On July 25, he was involved in a shootout with police in the Lat Krabang area while trying to escape arrest. He was hit in the arm.

He faces charges of illegal possession of weapons and drugs, and resisting arrest, and was wanted on two arrest warrants for attempted murder.

On the afternoon of Aug 14, the police officer guarding him had taken another man for an X-ray. In his absence Mr Boontham slipped the police chains from his ankles, fled the building and escaped in a taxi.

Pol Col Jarut Sarutjornporn, chief of Pathumwan police station, said police investigaters found out he first went into hiding at his hometown in Chachoengsao province, and then went to stay at a cousin’s house in Lat Krabang.

They found him and arrested him. The owner of the house, Uthan Sornhat, 61, was also arrested for giving refuge to a fugitive.
