A jailed Khon Kaen drug suspect died after a bag of methamphetamines he had swallowed in order to smuggle into prison broke.
Tanongsak Daengpanich, 19, had been admitted Monday night to Khon Kaen Hospital with severe stomach pain, the Pacific News Service reported. He died around 8pm.
A subsequent autopsy found he had ingested a condom stuffed with six bags of drugs containing 61 methamphetamine pills and 30 grammes of crystal meth. One of the bags had broken.
Tanongsak was arrested July 2 with 13 "ya ba" tablets and brought from the Khon Kaen provincial prison to the courthouse for a hearing Aug 21.
It was believed Tanongsak was given the condom of drugs in his courthouse cell while awaiting trial. He was thought to have swallowed the condom to acts a a "drug mule" to smuggle the narcotics into prison, but doubled over in pain once arriving there.
Grandmother Malisod Kaewriang, 56, said she didn't question the +cause of the man's death when she came to retrieve his body for the funeral.
