The superiors of the soldiers who attacked the airmen at a nightclub in Pathum Thani's Khlong Luang district met their commander yesterday in a bid to heal the rift that had grown between the two units following the brawl on Wednesday night.

Lt Col Mahithorn Boonkhlong, commander of the 30th Cavalry Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, yesterday met Group Captain Thein Thepanon, commander of the Air Military Police Department, at the Air Military Police Department offices to offer an apology on behalf of his subordinates, who allegedly attacked the air force personnel.

The reconciliation gesture came after Prime Minister and army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha, and air force chief ACM Prajin Juntong were informed about the fight.

They urged the two units to talk.

On Tuesday night, Air Military Police Department Flight Sergeant Tossaporn Jamsakorn, who was working part-time as a security guard at Khlong Pleng nightclub in Pathum Thani's Khlong Luang district, had tried to stop three men in casual clothes from smoking in the club.

They refused and pushed him when he asked them to leave the club.

The next day, Flt Sgt Tossaporn and Flt Sgt Worawit Bamrungmuang, also attached to the Air Military Police Department, and Flt Sgt Juraphun Sansuk, attached to the civil engineering department, were working as security guards at the club when they were punched in the face and hit on the head with rifles by 20 soldiers dressed in uniform. A video clip of the brawl was posted online.

An army source said AVM Porramet Ketkowit, head of administration at the Don Muang Royal Thai Air Force base, has ordered a probe into the airmen's conduct.
