The cool, green hills of Khao Yai hold great appeal for Bangkok residents seeking an escape from the city. In recent years more people have been looking for residences in Khao Yai for weekend breaks or extended stays. Detached houses and villas aimed at affluent buyers have been fixtures in the area for some time, and now condominiums are beginning to emerge.
The condominium market is still in its infancy but the trend is becoming clear nonetheless. The total number of condominium units completed and registered at the Department of Land from 1995 until the first quarter of 2013 was approximately 350. The first condominium development in Khao Yai started in 1995 but it was 2005 before the second. Most of the activity has been in the past five years.
The largest share of the residential market in Khao Yai is landed development and plots in developments for sale, but some condominiums have recorded high take-up rates from buyers.
