The complete acquisition by Hewlett Packard (HP) of 3Com and H3C, together with the company's Converged Infrastructure (CI) strategy will lead HP to become the leading networking industry, according to HP (Thailand) managing director Beng Teck Liang.

"Today we are HP Networking, no more Procurve, no more 3Com nor H3C. HP is going to transform the networking industry with the target to be the number one in the market," Beng said, noting that this acquisition will secure HP's leadership with comprehensive networking portfolio, from data centre, core, edge, security to management.

Beng noted that 3Com and H3C have now become business units running under HP ESSN (comprising Enterprise, Server, Storage and Networking). After combining the 3Com team with HP, there is a 40-50 member sales team for HP enterprise.

Asked about the vendor partners that HP dealt with before the merging with 3Com, Beng said that for the market around the core, HP would try to offer only 3Com products, but around the proprietary or third party vendors such as Alcatel-Lucent and Juniper, the company will continue to deliver maintenance of those partners.

He pointed out that 70 percent of the business is involved operation and maintenance, however, HP has tried to unlock the organisations which he said the data centre of the future will be built on a converged infrastructure.

"Converge Infrastructure is about efficiency, scalability and ease of deploying solutions and only HP can offer a full portfolio of solutions and services designed specifically to solve complexities of data centre," he said.

According to Sakchai Punyajaray, director of HP Networking, Enterprise Business, the new HP networking portfolio offers solutions across the extended enterprise comprising A Series which is for the large enterprise, E Series for mid-sized clients with changing network needs, V Series for SMB clients seeking easy to use connectivity solutions and S Series for clients that require network security solutions, especially Tipping Point. "The name of Tipping Point will stay for one year due to its strong branding and then will become the one HP," he said.

The new HP networking covers horizontal solutions including data centre networking, enterprise routing, end-to-end security, LAN switching, mobility and unified communications.

"With the complete solutions and service, we believe that we will gain more in the mid range market, and growing in the large data centre," he said.
