Top workouts of 2011 can be done most anywhere
The American College of Sports Medicine has announced the top fitness trend for 2011: the boot camp workout _ a basic, high-intensity exercise system, modelled after military-style training, which features cardiovascular, strength, endurance and flexibility exercises.
To catch up with the trend, you can begin boot camp training at home without breaking the bank because the workout requires minimal space and virtually no equipment. You can do the exercises in your bedroom, back yard or garage.
Just follow the useful guidelines offered by Dr David Ryan, who will encourage you to try something new and challenging. Of course, it's more than sitting on a bike or running on a treadmill.
Dr Ryan will give you creative ideas for how to use household items to adjust your exercise. For example, lifting a screw-cap milk carton (one of my favourites), stepping onto a chair and doing push-ups onto a strong box.

TRX Suspension Training
Another popular workout in 2011 is TRX Suspension Training, using the latest piece of gym equipment. If you're looking for new ways to improve your physical strength, the TRX Suspension Trainer fits the bill perfectly.
Similar to the boot camp workout, TRX Suspension Training can be performed anywhere at home.
All you have to do is attach the equipment to a door or tree branch or something sturdy such as the ceiling. You can train your upper body, lower body, back and abdomen, using your own body weight to create resistance.
As a beginner, you can learn to use the equipment by watching a YouTube video provided by Randy Hetrick, who explains the basics and benefits of suspension training.
The CEO of Escape Fitness also offers step-by-step instructions on how to attach the suspension effectively, perfect positions and angles of the suspension, and how to customise it to suit your body size. Not to be missed is the full-body workout routine done with the suspension.
