Best Buy to sell Leap Motion controller | Bangkok Post: tech

Leap Motion, the creator of the 'Minority Report'-style gesture interface will sell its controller exclusively through Best Buy when it launches in the US later this year.

Leap Motion's controller for PCs can track movements to 1/100th millimeter -- smaller than the tip of a pin -- with no visible lag time, has a 150-degree field of view, and tracks individual hands and all 10 fingers at 290 frames per second. It is sensitive to movements within a 9m3 space meaning that users don't have to hunch over their keyboards in order to get the most from it. Not much larger than a flash drive, the controller connects to a PC via USB port and once the drivers have been downloaded and installed it is ready to work.

As such the device, which will retail for a mere $70, has been turning numerous heads in the technology industry, including that of PC manufacturer Asus, who earlier this month announced its own partnership with Leap Motion to bundle the controller with its 2013 range of premium desktop and notebook computers.

From February, the controller will be available for preorder from Best Buy or via Leap Motion's own website and the company is currently working to identify other partners in other territories to aid with its international roll-out. The signals are that Leap Motion have huge ambitions for their product and clearly view it as a mainstream device and not something for a niche market.
