The Asia-Pacific region alone is expected to have some 117 million units by the end of this year, by which there are some 15 million smartphones in Thailand today.
The AIS Startup programme has become one of the routes where talented and innovative app developers can find a shortcut to become digital entrepreneurs.
Advanced Info Service (AIS) vice-president of Value Added Service Pratthana Leelapanang noted that the growth of the mobile application market is accelerating in line with the growth rate of smart devices. Indeed, mobile app development has turned into the future business of the smartphone world.
At present, there are over one million apps available for smartphones, with over 1,000 newly introduced apps each day. Undoubtedly, the value of the app development market is far greater than other businesses in the communication world, which is evidenced by monthly application downloads reaching 1.2 million. Most applications are developed by foreign developers; there are only 250 Service Provider and Content Provider companies registered in Thailand.
The trend of young talented developers running their own digital business is widespread around the world. In terms of the application development industry, most countries encourage people to become digital entrepreneurs with existing technologies accessible to them and language without limitations.
Though AIS has continually partnered with content providers and service providers in developing services and applications, today, there's a new generation of people who possess the capabilities and potential to be fully fledged app developers in their own right. Therefore, AIS has pursued cooperation with application developers and micro companies with the project called "AIS the StartUP", generating the community of developers.
"AIS is willing to render support, including technology, platform connection, and marketing strategy, providing a channel to approach over 34 million AIS customers and regional customers via Singtel Group _ occupying 400 million customers _ as well as advice on incorporation and meeting with foreign investors," Pratthana added.
