Software Expo Asia 2014, billed as one of the largest showcases for innovative software in the region, opens tomorrow at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and runs until Aug 30. This year's theme is "Make Asia Smarter".

Organised by the Software Industry Promotion Agency (Sipa), the three-day event is intended to announce to Asia and the rest of the world Thailand's readiness to enter the Asean Economic Community and its potential to become the centre for regional development and for the export of software.

The expo will encompass all aspects of the sector: software for business, finance, marketing, export, logistics, education and training, entertainment, the digital content industry and animation. There will be a wide range of inspiring conferences plus displays of leading-edge technology, product demonstrations, business clinics, networking sessions and business-matching opportunities.

According to Sipa's acting director, Suwimon Dhevasilchaikul, more than 200 international and local software vendors have already signed up for the expo.

Highlights will include an international conference, business solution clinic, an Asean animation contest, as well as the "Student Innovation" "Rising Stars" and "Global Market with Thai Software" pavilions.

Another programme sure to spark interest at this year's event is the business matchmaking forum at which IT professionals will be invited to share ideas and feedback about and new innovations which have inspired them.

The conference and seminar sessions will run concurrently with the exhibition to provide attendees with the chance to gain first-hand information about a broad range of topics which will be addressed by speakers recruited from leading global ICT (Information and communications technology) and market research companies. Admission is free of charge.
