Borderlands 2 isn't out until late September. But what if you want to play it right now? Thanks to its official 2D retro remake The Border Lands, you can.

The essence of a Borderlands game is there -- the vicious doglike skags, the crazy hollering bandits, slugs and rabid air-beasts aplenty, not forgetting the obsession with turning up random weapons, each of which might be the best thing ever or weak enough to 99 percent guarantee your immediate extinction.
Through official de-make The Border Lands, players can gain a modicum of familiarity with the main characters of Borderlands 2 -- hulking dwarf Salvador, all-rounders Maya and Axton, and fleet-footed ninja Zero, all of whom are rated according to health, firepower and speed.
It takes the form of an accessible top-down arena shooter, with English, French, Italian, German and Spanish language options, but progress beyond the first few stages and it soon becomes a hectic bullet-fuelled sprint to avoid the nasties and escape with some sweet, sweet loot. Just like the real game.
So, Smash TV with crazy guns and delivered for our gaming pleasure in browser form, then? Yes please.
