'Assassin's Creed III: Liberation' wins WGA's Video Game Writing award

PlayStation Vita game "Assassin's Creed III: Liberation" won the Outstanding Achievement in Video Game Writing category at the 2013 Writers Guild Award Awards on the eve of February 17.

The game places players in the shoes of 18th-century socialite Aveline de Grandpré, the conspiracy-seeking, mixed-race daughter of a monied New World merchant, and the "Assassin's Creed" series's first female protagonist.

Also nominated were Xbox 360 game "Halo 4," fellow Vita title "Uncharted: Golden Abyss," and the multi-format offerings "Assassin's Creed III," James Bond tie-in "007 Legends," and "Disney Epic Mickey 2."

All six qualified by virtue of their writers' affiliation with the WGA.

By comparison, the Game Developers Choice Awards listed its 2013 nominees late in January, with "Spec Ops: The Line," "Mass Effect 3," "Dishonored," "The Walking Dead" and "Virtue's Last Reward" in the running for its own Best Narrative.

February 7's 2013 DICE Awards had seen "The Walking Dead" win Outstanding Achievement in Story and Outstanding Achievement in Character.
