Another warrant in SCB gas leak case

The Criminal Court approved an arrest warrant on Monday for another suspect involved in the deadly chemical leak that killed eight people at Siam Commercial Bank's (SCB) head office.

The warrant was issued at the request of Phahon Yothin police for Boonserm Krajard, 35, an engineer at Abit Multisystem Co, on a charge of carelessness causing deaths and injuries.

The company is one of the firms subcontracted by the main contractor Mega Planet Co, to upgrade the fire extinguishing system at the SCB Park on March 13.

Mr Boonserm voluntarily came to the Phahon Yothin police station on Monday evening to acknowledge the charge. He denied the allegation during the inquiry which lasted about two hours.

The engineer admitted that he supervised workers of Abit Multisystem to install pipes for the building’s fire protection system but left at 4pm before the accident took place.

Police allowed him bail for 200,000 baht.

Pol Maj Gen Charoen Srisasalak, chief of Metropolitan Police Division 2, who questioned Mr Boonserm, said the Phetchabun native was wanted because he had neglected his duty and had not provided sufficient training and knowledge to his subordinates before taking them to work.

Pol Maj Gen Charoen said the suspect’s bail request was approved because he had been cooperating with police since the early days after the incident, including today.

Earlier, police arrested seven people in the case, all of whom reported themselves and have been prosecuted.
