Empowering Thais Against Unplanned Pregnancies

The Department of Health of the Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Organon, has launched the “RakTuaYaKluaFang” campaign to combat and diminish the incidence of unplanned pregnancies in Thailand.

The Department of Health and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, in partnership with Organon (Thailand) Co., Ltd., have inaugurated the “RakTuaYaKluaFang” campaign. This initiative aims not only to curb unintended pregnancies in Thailand but also to transform community and family perceptions about implant contraception. It advocates that choosing implant contraception reflects self-love and social responsibility. The campaign supports the government's strategy to reduce adolescent pregnancies. The launch event was presided over by Dr. Bunyarit Sukrat, Director of the Bureau of Reproductive Health, with Dr. Sunthorn Sunthornchart, Director General of the Department of Health, and Mr. Koen C. Kruijtbosch, Managing Director of Organon (Thailand) Co., Ltd., also in attendance at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit.

Dr. Bunyarit Sukrat stated that unplanned pregnancies continue to pose significant public health challenges in Thailand, necessitating ongoing preventive measures. The government is committed to providing comprehensive support to empower women and girls with accurate information and access to contraceptive services. The “RakTuaYaKluaFang” campaign is a critical step toward this goal, aiming to enhance knowledge and understanding to effectively reduce unintended pregnancies.

Dr. Sunthorn Sunthornchart highlighted that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration prioritises the well-being of all Thai citizens and aligns with the “RakTuaYaKluaFang” campaign's vision of fostering a Thai society sensitive to gender issues. The administration is fully supportive of the campaign's objective to address various societal challenges and to enhance the quality of life within the community and the broader Thai society.

Mr. Koen C. Kruijtbosch emphasised Organon's vision of improving everyday health for women. The “RakTuaYaKluaFang” campaign, underpinned by the "Smart Family" initiative, reflects cross-sector collaboration aiming to encourage family discussions beyond sexual education to include awareness of the ramifications of unplanned pregnancies. Organon is dedicated to listening to women's needs to develop superior health products, initiatives, and experiences that empower their futures.

At the campaign's kickoff, a panel discussion titled “Embedding the New Idea #RakTuaYaKluaFang” featured Mr. Sutee Chudcha, Deputy President of The Children and Youth Council of Thailand; Dr. Siraya Kitiyodom, a specialist in Reproductive Medicine at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital; and Ms. Kanticha Chumma, an actress representing the youth, who collectively advocated for open family discussions about contraception as an act of self-love and social responsibility.

The campaign encourages educators, parents, and women and girls to adopt an open-minded approach to contraceptive education, highlighting the broad spectrum of available methods and proper usage.
