Design Excellence Award 2024 focuses on soft power

The Department of International Trade Promotion is inviting entries to its Design Excellence Award 2024 competition which focuses on sustainability and inspiration derived from the country’s soft power.

DITP director-general Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit early this month outlined the details of the Design Excellence Award 2024 (DEmark Award 2024) competition.

This year’s competition is based on the theme of “The Power of Sustainable Design” for the sake of the environment and society and also focuses on design inspiration from Thailand’s soft power, he said.

Pra-onnuch Pranuch, director of the DITP’s Office of Value Creation, said there are more entry categories this year, and that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as new designers are encouraged to join this annual design competition.

The DEmark Award 2024 contest consists of eight design categories:

(1) Furniture: Industrial Process/Industrial Craft

(2) Lifestyle: Industrial Process/Hand Craft: gifts and decorative items/household items

(3) Accessories & Wearables: Apparel/Jewelry/Textile/Lifestyle Fashion, e.g. hats, bags and footwear

(4) Industrial & IoT: home appliances, equipment and facilities, digital appliances, transport, smart devices and Internet of Things devices

(5) Packaging Design: Product-based and Branding-based

(6) Graphic & Communication Design: typography, graphics on surface, digital media, identity design, illustration, character design, digital art and exhibition design

(7) Interior Design: hotels, restaurants, cafes, retail shops, co-working spaces, condominiums and residential projects

(8) System Services & Digital Platforms: online interface design, apps for smartphones and tablets and websites

DEmark Award winners can use the DEmark logo to promote their products free of charge and will automatically enter the second round of the Good Design Award (G Mark) contest in Japan.

As well, award-winning entries will be exhibited in the Good Design Exhibition 2024 in Japan in July. They will also and be eligible for image promotion and trade opportunities in world-class design events including Milan Design Week in Italy and Maison&Objet Paris in France.
