Information
Mae Salong (Santikhiri) is a Chinese dominated town once settled by the KMT (Kuomintang) which makes you feel like you are not in Thailand. It sits approximately 1800m above sea level and is about 40km out of Mae Chan. There is a daily market, tribal handicraft stores, provision stores and numerous tea shops. They specialise in top grade oolong tea. It is an extremely peaceful getaway and makes a good base for exploring Akha, Lisu, Mien and Hmong villages in the area.
