Photos of Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) have been published so often that it practically represents Bangkok or Thailand. There is an 80-metre central tower of Khmer design, surrounded by four smaller towers. Wat Arun is historically important. It housed the Emerald Buddha after its return to Thailand. It features murals and a Buddha image designed by King Rama II. It is located on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya River.
