Information
Wat Pra Kaew is near the Grand Palace in Bangkok, which was built in 1782 by King Rama I and served as official royal residence until 1946. Wat Pra Kaew was built in 1897 to house the Emerald Buddha after the capture of Vientiane in 1778. The temple is a place of worship. Dress appropriately with long-sleeved shirts, blouses, long trousers, dresses or skirts. Cloth for rent at the palace gates are used to cover bare legs or bare shoulders. Never point the soles of your feet at the Emerald Buddha.
