It was a couple of years ago when I first visited Cape Panwa Hotel. Not long after, the property, one of Phuket’s pioneering high-end hotels, underwent renovations, which were recently completed. The front desk, for example, has been redecorated with an ocean theme featuring a school of fish made with naturalfibre strings forming a ‘‘spiral’’ column. Many of the guest rooms in the old buildings have been merged and redesigned to create bigger suites. During my latest visit, which coincided with the Phuket Race Week hosted by the hotel, I stayed in the ‘‘new’’ building built two years ago to accommodate guests while construction work was going on in parts of the original structures.
