Originally built in 1848 by Mae Saed, great-granddaughter of a Prince of Mueang Chae, on the banks of the Ping River in Chiang Mai Province, the museum offers displays of traditional Lanna lifestyle.
The house which is the museum, was moved from its location in Chiang Mai to its present location within the grounds of the Siam Society.
