Khlong Lan - Umphang Road

Thanks to the fighting spirit of conservationists from all sectors of society, governmental and non-governmental, Highway 1117 did not reach Umphang, its intended destination in the western border province of Tak. In 1987, construction of the proposed Khlong Lan-Umphang link, which cuts through Mae Wong National Park, was stopped at Chong Yen, a scenic lookout point and popular camping area. The portion of the road shown in this painting can be viewed from a hill called Khun Nam Yen which is about four kilometres from Chong Yen. - How to get there The park headquarters is about 15 kilometres west of Khlong Lan intersection, 65 kilometres northwest of Nakhon Sawan town. Since attractions in the forest are spaced far apart and there's no public transport, the most convenient way to get to the various sites of interest in the park is to bring your own vehicle. - Food and accommodation Food and accommodation are available at the park headquarters. But if you want to stay overnight at the campgrounds located deeper within the forest you'll need to bring your own supplies. - For more information Telephone: Mae Wong NP on 055-766-436 Internet: http://www.dnp.go.th/parkreserve/asp/style1/default.asp?npid=139&lg=2 Review with pictures: http://www.bangkokpost.com/travel/news/211544/khlong-lan-umphang-road
