Information
For visitors to Nong Khai, seeing a spire sticking out of the waters of the Mekong river during the dry season may be surprising, but to locals, it is an opportunity to make merit and wrap the spire in garlands and fabric. It is the spire of Phrathat Nong Khai which collapsed into the Mekong in 1847. With erosion, the pagoda has slowly drifted to the centre of the river where it is seen today.
