Phimai National Museum was an open museum, collecting art objects from Prasat Phimai and its neighbouring sites. In 1975, the museum was designated a National Museum and fell under the auspices of the Fine Arts Department, Since then, the museum has been turned into a regional museum of lower Isan
The museum's collection of artifacts date back many centuries, and include items from the Dvaravati and Khmer eras. The masterpiece of the museum collection is the stone statue of King Jayavarman VII of Angkor Thom which was found in Prang Bhramadhatta, Prasat Phimai.
