Information
The museum was incorporated as a national museum in 1935 by the Fine Arts Department. The museum has a wide collection of artefacts dating back to pre-historic times. The collection shows the area's importance to shipping and commerce with the hinterland. The sculptures and other artefacts dating from the 5th - 9th centuries indicate a prosperous city state existed here with contacts with India and China.
