Up, up and away

When the hot-air balloon slowly began to rise, Yut Wanichanond looked slightly serious as he adjusted the rope and regularly turned on the burner above our heads to keep the balloon going upwards.

Children watch as hot-air balloons are inflated at the Thailand International Balloon Festival held last month in Chiang Mai.

From the bustling ground where staff and onlookers ran around in chaos, we slowly moved up into the air. I noticed kids' jaws drop in awe and their pupils enlarge, impressed as the balloon and the basket it carried made its ascent. The burners over my head roared loudly, propelling me further into the sky above.
